The coronavirus pandemic will take center stage at this year’s Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER) annual meeting, where Suzanne Bevan, Executive Director of SER, shared with us that she expects it to be at the forefront of much of their programming. The 53rd annual gathering of epidemiologists will take place at the Sheraton Boston Hotel from December 15-18, 2020 and will bring together over 1,000 research, education and healthcare professionals.
For over five decades, SER has promoted epidemiologic research and nurtured junior scholars by sponsoring the American Journal of Epidemiology and Epidemiologic Reviews, as well as the annual SER meeting. The meeting will include the John C. Cassel Memorial Lecture, Tyroler Student Prize Paper, contributed papers, symposia, and posters on a wide range of epidemiologic issues.
Workshop offerings will cover a range of topics including Scientific Manuscript for Peer Review Journals, Creating Inclusive Classrooms and Curricula in Epidemiology, and Meta-Analysis. Pre-registration is required to attend the workshops.
The keynote address will follow the SER Presidential address by Martha Werler, professor and chair of epidemiology at Boston University School of Public Health and SER’s newly appointed president. An award presentation will recognize members of the organization for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the field.
The Society of Epidemiologic Research, the oldest and largest general epidemiology society in North America, was established in 1968 to keep epidemiologists on the forefront of scientific developments. Registration to attend SER’s 2020 meeting is currently open and discounted rates will be available through November 2.
For SER’s latest discussion on the coronavirus outbreak, you can listen to their podcast, Epidemiology Counts, where experts in infectious disease epidemiology weigh in.
